Cebuano Merben Roque wins PCCOnline Chess Challenge

NATIONAL MASTER (NM) Merben Roque pocketed the top honors in the 15th edition of FNA Fundador Binahon Chess Cup dubbed as PCCOnline Chess Challenge last Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Pinoy Chess Club Online Facebook site.

The Cebuano bet Roque collected six points to win the single-elimination tournament, knock-out format, 2 minutes bullet time control format.

Roque went home the top prize P1,500 for his effort in the event organized by Pinoy Chess Club Online Facilitator, Arbiter FNA Noel Morales.

The former Rizal Technological University (RTU) Mandaluyong standout Roque toppled University of Sto. Tomas bet Normel Benigno De Jesus of Sta. Maria, Bulacan in the final round to added the 15th edition of FNA Fundador Binahon Chess Cup to his growing list of title. In other top board results, Patrick Ismael Credo of Bicol edged Vince Angelo Medina of Cavite.
De Jesus and Credo ended with similar 5.0 points, but De Jesus took the second place honors by virtue of a higher-tie break output.

Medina remains at 4.0 points and was at solo fourth place despite his loses in the last round.

FIDE Master (FM) Sander Severino of Silay, Negros Occidental, Jeth Romy Morado of FEU Fern-Diliman, Quezon City, Fide Master (FM) Narquingden Reyes of Rodriguez, Rizal tallied 3.0 points each, a good for a share fifth to seventh placers.

Meanwhile John Philip Oncita led the huge group of 2.0 pointers that includes National Master (NM) Alcon John Datu, Timothy John So Kua, Jerome Villanueva, Napoleon Bello, Carlo Caranyagan, James Michael Erese and John Ernie Maraan.
