TEAM PHILIPPINES OVER-ALL CHAMPION IN ASEAN AGE GROUP CHESS IN MALAYSIA

FILIPINO woodpsuhers Jerlyn Mae San Diego of Dasmarinas, Cavite, Mhage Gerriahlou Sebastian of Flora, Kalinga Apayao and Samantha Babol Umayan of Davao City combined their forces with a total 22.0 points output to capture the title in the Girls 12 and under en route to a gold medal finish in the team event of the blitz competition at the conclusion of the 18th Association of Southeast Asian Nation Age Group Chess Championship in Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia Sunday night, December 3, 2017.

Sebastian and San Diego, both won the gold in the individual event with 8.0 points apiece in nine outings. Laysa Latifah of Indonesia took the silver with 7.0 points. Umayan and Krisen Yochabel Marie Sanchez of Cebu got 6.0 points each for 4th to 5th place.

San Diego, a product of the sports development program of Dasmarinas, Cavite mayor Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. and fourth district Cavite representative Jenny Barzaga, bagged six gold medals, the same medal tally output of Kaye Lalaine Regidor of Sta. Rosa (Girls 8 and under) and Ruelle Canino of Cagayan de Oro (Girls 10 and under) who also snatched six gold medals, two in standard, two rapid and two blitz in the individual and team event.

Kaye Lalaine Regidor of Sta. Rosa tallied perfect 9.0 points to rule the Girls 8 and under of the individual blitz competition.
Ruelle Canino of Cagayan de Oro scored 8.5 points to pocketed the gold medal in the Girls 10 and under.

Alexis Anne Osena of Manila and Woman Fide Master Allaney Jia G Doroy of Agusan del Norte shared the top honors and gold medal winner in the Girls 16 and under with seven points each in nine outings.

Doroy, Nazareth School of National University 15-year old student, playing under the tutelage of sportsman Samson Go, bagged four golds and a bronze while Osena notch four gold.
Woman Candidate Master Mira Mirano of Aklan reign in the girls 20 and under with nine wins undefeated in nine games of play.
Other individual gold medalists in the blitz competition were Vincent Ryu Dimayuga of Batangas and Al-Basher Buto of Cainta, who tallied eight points each in the Boys 8 and under, Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmarinas, Cavite won the Boys 12 and under with eight points marker, Daniel Quizon of Dasmarinas, Cavite prevailed in the Boys 14 and under with 8.0 points and Brylle Gever Vinluan of National University took the gold in the Boys 18 and under with 6.0 points in seven outings.

Team Philippines also dominated the team event of the blitz format.

National Master Edmundo Gatus of Tondo, Manila tallied 7.5 points to receive the gold medal of the blitz event in the Senior 50 years old category.

Team Philippines ended the supremacy of Vietnam in the Asean region winning the over-all championships with 83 Gold, 37 Silver and 29 Bronze medals.

Head of delegation is NCFP executive director Red Dumuk who assisted by other officials including International Arbiter James Infiesto, International Master elect Roel Abelgas, National Masters Alex Milagrosa, Wilfredo Neri and Edmundo Gatus and Angelina Mortos.

Team Philippines, supported by the Philippine Sports Commission under Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez and sent by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines under the leadership of Chairman/ President Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr.
