MAASIN CITY HONORS PRINCE ALBERT PAGARA DURING 17TH CITYHOOD ANNIVERSARY BOXING COMPETITION

Maasin City-born Prince Albert Pagara of the ALA Boxing Gym, Cebu City was honored by the City Government of Maasin during the 17th Charter Day Boxing Tournament last week. City Mayor Nacional Mercado with City Vice Mayor and City Sports Council Chairman Maloney Samaco and SP Sports Committee Chairman Councilor Zaldy Olita bestowed the award on the young Pagara who gave pride and glory to the city as well as the country in fights here and abroad.

His knockout victory over Aekkawee Kaewmanee of Thailand during the Pinoy Pride 41 at the IEC Convention Center in Cebu City showed ha was on the right road to redemption after that heartbreaking first career loss to Cesar Juarez of Mexico.
During his speech, Pagara thanked the Mayor and all city officials who made possible his recognition. ?I would like to apologize again to the people of Maasin for the loss to Juarez. But rest assured we will be back to the international championship soon,? said Pagara.

There were 27 bouts held that night involving boxers from Leyte and Southern Leyte. As expected host Maasin City garnered the most wins with eight victories to only two losses. Ormoc City has six wins with six losses, Leyte Sports Academy has three wins with four losses, Hindang of Leyte (2-3) has two wins with three losses. While Liloan (2-0), San Juan (2-3) and Padre Burgos (2-4) all of Southern Leyte has two wins each. Matalom of Leyte (1-2) and Macrohon (1-0) of Southern Leyte has one win each. Winless were Hinunangan of So. Leyte with two losses and Tacloban City with one loss.
