In a clash of former minimumweight world-title challengers, southpaw Joey Canoy - trained by 1986 Asian Games medalist Brix Flores of Mandaue - scored a 10-round hard-fought unanimous decision win over ALA Boxing Gym fighter Melvin "Gringo" Jerusalem (11-2, 7 KO's.)
During the intense combat, Jerusalem visited the canvas in round seven thanks to a quick right overhead sent by Canoy. Jerusalem was deducted a point for repeated low blows.
Canoy, born in Gensan, was the overall better fighter, though the boxer with seemingly bigger power in his blows was Jerusalem. At the end, the scores were 95-93 (twice), 97-92 all for Jaoey Canoy, who improves his record to (13-3-1, 6 KO's)
Tonight's card Pinoy Pride 41: New Generation warriors was a production of ALA Boxing Promotions whose president and CEO is Michael Aldeguer.
Jerusalem (L) misses against Canoy.
