MAASIN CITY WINS 57TH SOUTHERN LEYTE ANNIVERSARY INTER-TOWN AND INVITATIONAL BOXING TOURNAMENT

The host City of Maasin garnered the overall championship in the 57th Southern Leyte Anniversary Inter-Town and Invitational Boxing Tournament held at the Capitol Sunken Garden. The tournament which opened last Tuesday was graced by Governor Damian Mercado who would like to see national champions and even international winners from the crop of young boxers from different places who saw action during the three-day competition.
Maasin City sent ten boxers to the finals and nine of them came out victorious to win nine gold medals out of the fourteen weight divisions for this capital city, known as the birthplace of Prince Albert Pagara and President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Yours truly served as the chairman of the tournament with Councilor Zaldy Olita as the matchmaker and coordinator. It was officiated by the Southern Leyte Boxing Association, a recognized affiliate of the Alliances of Boxing Associations in the Philippines (ABAP) and assisted by the Maasin City Sports Council. The prizes were given by the provincial government of Southern Leyte.
