Undefeated Thai WBC 105-pounder World Champion Chayaphon Moonsri (also known as Wanheng Menayothin) is set to make the 7th defense of his world title against WBC silver champ and former defector "The Lionman" Omari Kimweri (16-3, 6 KO's) of Australia by way of Tanzania today Saturday June 3 in Southern Thailand.
Both fighters easily made 105 lbs during the official weigh-in and their third man in the ring will be top referee Mr. Bruce McTavish.
Moonsri's last title defense was a win by points over Filipino tough puncher Melvin Jerusalem (11-1, 7 KO's) last January in Thailand.
Meanwhile, the challenger "Lion man" Kimweri, 34, earned the right to face Moonsri after narrowly outpointing Filipino former world titlist Randy Petalcorin (26-2-1, 19 KO's) in April of last year in Melbourne.
A victory for the 31 year-old Chayaphon Moonsri (46-0, 17 KO's) will inch him closer to tie the perfect 49-0 world record for unbeaten world champions held by ring legends Floyd Mayweather Jr (49-0, 26 KO's) and Rocky Marciano (49-0, 43 KO's).
Marciano set his record in 1955, while Mayweather did it in 2015.
Recently, 4-division world champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (46-1, 38 KO's) was getting close to tying the awesome record, but did not make it.
Will the rather unknown world champion Moonsri of Thailand be able to one day tie the historic Mayweather and Marciano record? A win today will get him really near.
Who to fight next? The victor of the Moonsri and Kimweri clash has been ordered by the WBC to battle southpaw speedster WBC Latino Champion Leroy "El Sensasional" Estrada (16-2, 6 KO's) of La Chorrera, Panama. Estrada is WBC # 1.
Today's action card in Thailand will also feature promising undefeated 19-year-old Australian bantamweight Brock Jarvin (7-0, 6 KO's) as Hall-of-Famer boxing royalty Jeff Fenech will be in attendance.
The Moonsri vs Kimweri WBC title fight will be broadcast live in the Kingdom of Thailand on Thai Channel 7. Many internet sites offer this channel's live stream. The live telecast begins at exactly @ 4 PM Thailand time (GMT + 7).
