GENERAL Santos City -- The host General Santos City boxing team showed too much power and class against the visiting Koronadal City team in the inaugural staging of the 2007 Manny Pacquiao Invitational Amateur Boxing Tournament held June 23 at the Oval Plaza covered court here.

Coached by ex-pros Dexter Benatero and Zarlit Rodrigo, the Generals won 12 of the 13 bouts managed by the Amateur Boxing Association of the Phils. (Abap) General Santos City Chapter.

Seventeen-year old Robert Gargaran stopped Koronadal's Jordan Estorque in 1:29 of the third round by a referee-stopped-contest-outclassed in the final bout in the 54-kilogram category.

Two other bouts also ended up via the short route. GenSan's Rey Esparagosa, 18, stopped Dante Panes in 36 seconds by RSC-O in the second round of the 50-kilograms.

Aroel Jordan, 13, pummelled to submission Benjie Oliveros in 10 seconds of the second round by RSC-headblows in the 38-kilos.
The other winners for GenSan were Jayson Gonzales (30 kgs.), Elpidio Omas-as (32 kgs.), Jover Crayop (40 kgs.), Arjay Encarnado (42 kgs.), Roldan Boncales (44 kgs.), Julito Purisima (46 kgs.), Bernard Plandez (48 kgs.) and Jovel Romasasa (52 kgs..

Only Khim Jay Labuay won for Koronadal by outpointing Zaldy Jordan in the 36 kgs.

Boxing icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, who was still in Manila, is providing the cash incentives to all the young boxers.

ABAP GenSan president Rey Golingan said GenSan might next fight against Davao del Sur on July 7 at 2 p.m. at the same venue.
