Powerhouse sluggers Gennady "GGG" Golovkin and Marco Antonio "Veneno" Rubio who will battle each other in an exciting clash for the WBA/IBO middleweight title at the sold-out StubHub Center in Carson, California on Sunday, Manila Time.
The sell-out crowd was indicated when the two fighters, according to the WBC website, "were a smash hit in a public training workout prior to theitr fireworks on fight night" which will be telecast along with the WBA featherweight super championship showdown between Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire and undefeated Jamaican Nicholas Walters by ?Sabados de Box? for M?xico, SPACE channel for all Latin America and the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN in the Philippines.
The WBC reported that Golovkin grimly observed " This is my first fight in California. Rubio is the best fighter that I had ever faced. It'll be a rough tough test. He's a good fighter as he's the WBC interim Champion- a hard Mexican boxer with plenty of experience."
Rubio parried and countered: ?I'll be fighting with the most dangerous fighter in the division. I've had an excellent training camp along with Robert Garcia. I'm ready to win! I'll use every bit of my experience inside the ring to triumph!?
Rubio has a record of 59-6-1 with 51 knockouts and is coming off a 10th round knockout of Dominico Spada to win the WBC Interim title last April 15 while Golovkin who is from Kazakhstan is undefeated with a record of 30-0 with 27 knockouts and blasted Britain's Daniel Geale last July 26 to score a 3rd round TKO.
