NBA -- Buzzer-beater sinks Spurs in Berlin Global Games

CHICAGO -- The defending NBA champions San Antonio Spurs lost a thrilling 94-93 decision to Alba Berlin early Thursday (RP Time) at the jampacked O2 World arena, no thanks to Jamel McClean, who drilled a running floater as time expired.
The exhibition match was part of the 2014 NBA Global Games event.
McClean, a 6-foot-8, 229-pound American who is playing in the German League, finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He made 6 of 9 field goals and 6 of 7 free throws in 24 minutes off the bench.
Comfortably ahead, 93-89, with 14.1 seconds left to play, the Spurs looked headed for a hard-fought victory when Tony Parker went to the free throw line for two freebies that could have padded San Antonio's advantage.
But Parker, who sank all 11 of his prior free throws, missed both. In the ensuing play, Alba Berlin's Reggie Redding swished a wide open 3 that put the German team to within a point, 93-92.
After a timeout, Tim Duncan turned over the ball to Redding in an errant inbounds play and Alba Berlin cashed in with a game-winner, much to the delight of the 14,504 fans in attendance.
Alex Renfroe and Clifford Hammonds finished with 15 apiece for Alba Berlin while Redding added 12 and 5 dimes. Alba made 37 of 81 field goals (45.7 percent), 6 of 15 threes (40 percent) and 14 of 20 free throws (70 percent).
Parker was the high point man for the Spurs with 28 points while Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard combined for 28 points and 17 rebounds. Danny Green tallied 9 for the Spurs, who converted 31 of 64 field goals (48.4 percent) and only 4 of 16 triples (25 percent).
Up next for the Spurs is a trip to Istanbul, Turkey, where they will play against Fenerbahce Ulker on October 11, (Homer D. Sayson)
