Glen Tapia raring to put on another exciting show for his fans

New Jersey ? Popular New Jersey fighter Glen ?Jersey Boy? Tapia was disappointed that he cannot put on a show for his fans and friends at the Mecca of Boxing ? the Madison Square Garden, last summer.

?I was mad. A lot of fans brought tickets. I had a lot of people who are coming down to New York to go see me in The Garden and they did not see me perform,? said Tapia during a break in his training this week at a gym in Hackensack.

His July 26 bout with France?s Salim Larbi in the undercard of Gennady Golovkin versus Daniel Geale was called off after the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) found an abnormality in one of his clotting factors during its routine blood testing.

?It was actually with the doctor. He made kind of a mistake. He said something real bad and that wasn?t true to clear me. And they did not clear me. If New York had more time, they would have cleared me but New York did not have more time,? Tapia explained.

?But now I am cleared, I am clear here (New Jersey), New York, everywhere. It was something I had all my life and it was something minimal.?

The Passaic light middleweight slugger will return to action this Saturday in one of his favorite venues in ?America?s Favorite Playground? ? The Bally?s Event Center in Atlantic City in a card that he will headline against Lithuanian Donatas Bondoravas (18-5-1, 6 KOs). And expect his loyal fans to be there.

?I have a lot of people coming as always, in Atlantic City. I always packed that room up. It?s getting bigger and bigger and it is getting bigger and bigger. I just can?t wait to give them a show.?

Exciting fights are what Tapia aims to bring in the ring, who admits that he hates watching and being involved in boring fights. He is looking to win the fight by knockout and to finish his opponent early just like his previous fights in the aforementioned venue.

Despite a TKO loss last December against hard punching James Kirkland, the 24 year old vows to be a better fighter every time he gets a chance to train and fight and give his fans the show that they want.

?Okay, I lost, but I learned a lot from it. It was a learning lesson for me. It actually stopped me in my tracks and made me wake up a little bit. A lot of changes happened and I feel that I am better after that loss. I am just going to show everybody that I am better. I am working real hard and it is not going to happen again,? Tapia told Philboxing.com.

One of those changes was him training with Hall of Famer Freddie Roach at Roach?s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. Roach will not be able to be in his corner this Saturday because of last weekend?s stint in Russia where he manned the corner of WBA cruiserweight champ Denis Lebedev. Roach has sent his assistant, Marvin Somodio to be in Tapia?s corner this Saturday alongside long-time trainer, Alex Devia.
