CHICAGO -- Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo broke his left hand in a shower accident at his home and had surgery Friday night at the New England Baptist Hospital.
He is expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks, according to ESPN Boston.
Rondo tore his ACL in January 2013 and returned to play last season where he averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds in 30 games. He is in the final year of a five-year $55 million contract and will become a restricted free agent next July.
Picked No.18 in the 2006 NBA draft, Rondo rose to become one of the elite point guards in the NBA. He is a 4-time All-Star and led the league in steals in 2010. He also topped the NBA in assists in 2012 and 2013.
In 2008, alongside Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, Rondo guided the Boston Celtics to the NBA title, beating the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. (Homer D. Sayson)
