DAVAO CITY (PNA) Sept. 16 -- Filipino fighters Harmonito dela Torre and John Vincent Moralde scored contrasting wins against their Indonesian rivals to crown themselves as champions in their respective divisions in the World Boxing Federation (WBF) last Saturday night at the Lagao Gym in General Santos City.
The 20-year old dela Torre, a native of Cagayan de Oro City now based in GenSan under the Sanman Promotions, landed a right upper cut on Isack Junior to score a technical knockout in 1:38 of the fourth round.
Dela Torre started strong in the early rounds by connecting solid body blows that forced Isack to backpedal and cover himself. Dela Torre, who made his 14th win with 9 knockouts and no loss or draw, won the WBF Interim Super Featherweight belt awarded by WBF president Howard Goldber, who was assisted by WBC-AGCO bout supervisor Jaime Mata.
Moralde, on the other hand, landed more telling blows and combinations to win convincingly against Jason Butarbutar by a unanimous decision in their championship fight for the WBF International Super Bantamweight title.
?Matibay din yun kalaban ko,? said the 21-year old Moralde, who is now managed also by Sanman Promotions owned both by Dexter Tan and JC Mananquil.
Moralde, a former amateur boxer in Davao City, improved his record to 11 wins with 6 knockouts and no loss or draw.
In the other title-fight of the ?Battle of Pentagon? boxing card, American Danny ?Little Mac? Mcdermott of the United States pummelled to submission Ronelle Esperas of the Philippines by a technical knockout in 2:28 of the sixth round to win the WBC-ABCO super lightweight title.
The fight started more of a comic show in the first three rounds with Esperas trying to distract his serious opponent. Esperas, however, got tired after failing to land his jabs while he was also absorbed solid body shots from the American.
The results in the undercard saw Junuel Lacar stopped Rodmichael Sarguilla by a TKO in 1:15 of the 3rd round; Marquil Salva?a won over Rodel Garde by a Unanimous Decision; Raymart Gaballo TKO?d Zaldy Jordan, Jr. in 1:26 of the 2nd round; and Romero Duno won over Frejun Dela Cruz by Unanimous Decision.
The other officials from the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) were Senior Sports & Games Regulation Officers Arlene Olondriz, John Kenneth Improso and Datu Fahd Yasser A. Sinsuat.- LITO DELOS REYES
