NBA -- Rockets trade Lin to Lakers

CHICAGO -- The Houston Rockets parted ways with Jeremy Lin on Friday afternoon, trading the popular point guard to the Los Angeles Lakers alongside a future first-round pick.

Lin was due to receive $15 million in the last year of his original three-year deal worth $25 million and his expiring contract plus the prospect of harvesting future talent through the lottery proved too tempting for the Lakers to resist.

The 25-year old Lin, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard out of Harvard University, took the NBA by storm in the 2011-12 season when he starred for the New York Knicks and spawned the "Linsanity" boom.

After becoming a free agent in the summer of 2012, he inked with the Rockets for an astronomic $25 million deal that the Knicks chose not to match. Lin averaged 12.5 points and 4.1 assists in Houston last season. (Homer D. Sayson)
