The Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP) and PLDT will hold its 2014 National Boxing Championships at Digos City, Davao del Sur on July 1-7.
Congressman Manny Pacquiao will bankroll the expenses of the national boxing tourney and it will be held in the place where he started his career as an amateur boxer.
Only those boxers who won medals in the Qualifying Tournaments are accepted as official entries to the national championships. The area tourneys were held in Cagayan de Oro for Mindanao, Maasin in So. Leyte for Visayas and Tayabas in Quezon for Luzon.
The national championships will coincide with the 47th Founding Anniversary of Davao del Sur.
"We are honored by the gesture of Congressman Pacquiao," Gov. Claude Baustista said. "Davao del Sur will be ready to warmly welcome all the participants, officials and spectators."
Maasin City will be sending five boxers, namely Leo Domingo (50kg.), Jeffrey Orello (56kg.), Romie Evale (46kg.), Monsour Grullo (48kg.) and Shaquile Miole (46kg.). They won medals during the ABAP Visayas Tournament in Maasin City last February 28 to March 3.
"I have so many sweet memories in Digos as an amateur boxer," said Pacquiao, an ABAP official representing Region 8. For sentimental reasons the fighting congressman changed the hosting venue to Digos from his home province of Sarangani.
