WBC President Jose Sulaiman.

WBC president Jose Sulaiman has written a formal letter to Manny Pacquiao asking him "to confirm in writing his eligibility and acceptance or denial for the mandatory contender position" in the super featherweight division.

Sulaiman provided Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today with a copy of the letter he had faxed to Pacquiao as well Top Rank Promotions Bob Arum as well as Games & Amusements Board Chairman Eric Buhain and OPBF president Frank Quill.

In his letter Sulaiman said the WBC had previously designated Pacquiao as mandatory contender to the title then held by Marco Antonio Barrera. However, with the victory of Juan Manuel Marquez over Barrera, the WBC asked Pacquiao whether he would accept being mandatory contender to Marquez and indicated they wanted a response by 6:00 p.m. Mexico Time on Friday, March 23.

Sulaiman also wished Pacquiao the best of luck for his April 14 fight against undefeated Mexican Jorge Solis.
