Al ?Captain A? Sabaupan wowed his province mates Monday night when he chalked up an 8th round cessation of Sadiki Momba of Tanzania at the Pili Capitol Convention Center in his home province of Camarines Sur.

Fighting in front of a very large crowd led by its young governor, Gov. Migz Villafuerte, Sabupan did not disappoint his fellow Bicolanos as he engaged his Tanzanian opponent in a spirited contest atop the ring.

Momba, who was in town looking for the upset, boxed well in the first three rounds of their bout and his combinations momentarily silenced the hometown crowd.

But Sabaupan came back strong starting in the 5th round. He worked on Momba?s body diligently and almost dropped him in the 8th, to the delight of his fans and province mates.

The Tanzanian fighter survived the punishing 8th but decided not to continue in the next round, awarding a TKO victory to Sabaupan.

The boxing event dubbed as ?Pride and Glory?, was staged by the local government of Camarines Sur and Saved By The Bell Promotions. It is part of the yearly, ?Kaogma? Festival of the province ? an eleven day celebration of the founding anniversary of Camarines Sur.

Governor Villafuerte, who at 24 was the youngest elected governor of the Philippines, is an avid fan of boxing and follows the sport religiously. It is in his love of boxing that prompted him to build a Boxing Training Center in Camarines Sur. The center aims to train and develop his young province mates who want to pursue the sport.

There are plenty of young Bicolanos, some as young as 8 years old, who are already showing their interest in the planned boxing program by the province.

This is Sabaupan?s second triumph in Camarines Sur. He also scored an 8 round knockout of Rachamongkol Sor Pleonchit of Thailand last March 29th, also at the same venue. He improved his lot to 21 wins and 16 KOs against 2 defeats and a draw with the victory on Monday.
