New York - Filipina boxing and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) superstar Ana ?The Hurricane? Julaton will be one of the invited guests of this year?s Philippine Independence Day celebration and parade in New York City on June 1st.

The three-time world champion in women?s boxing and now recent MMA (ONE FC) practitioner will take part in various activities related to the 116th celebration of the country?s independence from Spain which will be highlighted by the annual Independence Day Parade ? the largest outside of the Philippines.

?I am excited to be coming out over in the East Coast especially in New York, it?s my first time. I know the Philippine community is huge out there and it will be an experience. I can?t wait to go there,? Julaton said.

The event which is traditionally held in the first Sunday of June is aimed to raise awareness of the country?s cultural and social heritage. It attracts over 100,000 people every year, mostly Filipinos And Filipino?Americans from the Tri-State (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) and its neighboring states.

The all-day affair will also feature a street fair from 28th St to 26th St. where vendors will sell native Filipino food and products from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The planned parade is scheduled to start at 11:45 in the morning, starting at 38th Street down to 27th Street and Madison Avenue in Manhattan.

A cultural festival and show will follow the parade at 2:00 p.m. which will feature local talents from the Tri-State and performing artist from the Philippines. Expected to perform are Original Philippine Music (OPM) icons Kuh Ledesma, Ogie Alcasid and Cecile Azarcon.

Also gracing the event is current Miss World, Miss Megan Young - the first Filipina to win the crown.

On its 25th year, the grand parade will be participated by various Filipino-American nonprofit and for- profit organizations.

This year?s theme is ?Tagumpay ng Pilipino. Karangalan ng Pilipinas.? (Triumphs of the Filipino. Pride of the Philippines).
