Jason "El Ni?o" and "Prince" Albert Pagara will face tough Indonesians this coming Friday, April 11, at the Maasin City Gymnasium. The bouts will serve as tune up bouts for the fighting siblings as they shoot for next bigger foreign encounters ahead.
"Jason is slated to fight in Dubai this coming June," said ALA Boxing Promotions CEO Michael Aldeguer. "Albert is geared up for a regional title fight."
Jason, the current WBO international light-welterweight champion, will face former Indonesia Boxing Association lightweight champion Rusmin Kie Raha.
"We are planning to send Jason to train in the United States," added Aldeguer. "He is in a very tough division so he needs international training."
Albert will fight Skak "Checkmate" Max in co-main event of the boxing card billed as "Maasin Pride V: Pagara Brothers vs. Indonesia."
"We grooming Albert for a regional title and we will train him with his brother in the US," expressed the ALA Boxing Promotions President.
This will be the first time the Pagara Brothers will be fighting together in their hometown Maasin City. Their mother hails from Barangay Lib-og where their uncle Hon. Walter Sepe is the Barangay Captain.
The last time they were in Maasin together was during Pinoy Pride IV last November 15, 2012. It was Albert's fourth fight in his hometown but the first with an imported foe.
Albert did not fail thousands of hometown fans by shattering visiting Thai boxer Tawanrung Eausampan during the Maasin Pride IV. A quick solid uppercut on his jaw made the previously undefeated Thai boxer fell and slept on the canvas. Referee Tony Pesons immediately stopped the fight at 1:45 of the second round.
Before the main event, Jason was given a Special Award for winning the WBO international light-welterweight title by knocking out Mexican Rosbel Montoya.
The boxers and officials are expected to arrive Maasin City today from Cebu. On Wednesday will be a public workout at the City Plaza. Thursday morning will be the official weigh in and press conference at the City Bus Terminal. A motorcade around the city will be held in the afternoon. Friday is fight night at the Maasin City Gym.
