
ALA-MANDAUE AND BAGO TOP PLDT-ABAP VISAYAS AREA TOURNEY 2014

Mandaue City represented by boxers from ALA Gym and Bago City came out on top of the 2014 PLDT-ABAP Visayas Area Tournament at the Maasin City Gym. The finals was held on Sunday and both teams finished with their boxers winning three golds, one silver and one bronze medal each.
ALA-Mandaue had Jeffrey Estella, Kenneth Paul Gentellan, and Kevin Jake Catajara winning the gold medals as they bested their respective opponents. Estella won over Aljun Batistil of Maasin City by 2nd round TKO in the junior boys bantamweight 54 kg. division. Gentellan prevailed over Andrian de la Cruz of Bago City in the youth boys flyweight 52 kg. category by unanimous decision. Catajara edged Jeorge Edusma of Cebu City Cebu City in the youth boys bantamweight division by split decision.
Bago City gold medalists were Mario Jaga Jr., Cresan Paul Diacamos, and Jasfer Montano. Jaga stopped Marlon Samblaceno of Maasin City in the junior boys light-bantamweight by 1st round TKO. Diacamos triumphed over Junrel Jimenez of Cebu City in the youth boys light-flyweight 49 kg. division by split decision. Montano outscored Vicente Casido of Bago City in the youth boys lightweight 60 kg. category by UD.
Cebu City came in second with two golds and three silvers with wins by Marco Pomar and Kit Ceron Garces. Pomar dominated Giovanne Argate of Leyte Sports Academy by UD in the junior boys light flyweight 48 kg. contest. Garces outboxed Evann Maquiling of Southern Leyte in the junior boys flyweight 50 kg. division.
Maasin City placed third with one gold, three silvers and six bronze medals. Romie Evale defeated Marvin Pomar of Cebu City by split decision in the junior boys pinweight 46 kg. level.
Leyte Sports Academy was fourth with one silver and one bronze. Southern Leyte got five bronze medals and Bacolod had one bronze medal for fifth place.
All medalists will qualify for the National Boxing Championships at Sarangani Province to be hosted by Congressman Manny Pacquiao.
