Former 135 pound title contender, Mercito ?No Mercy? Gesta (26-1-1, 14 KOs) will make his return on April 11 after a long hiatus from the sport.

The 26 year old Cebuano fighter will fight against an opponent that will be announced soon in his adopted city of San Diego, California after being sidelined by a rib injury for more than a year.

Gesta informed Philboxing.com that he has recovered well from his injury and was already cleared to spar by his doctors. He started sparring this week at the CMAC Gym in National City, California.

Gesta suffered a rib injury in training last June and underwent medical treatment and rehabilitation for the injury. He unsuccessfully challenged IBF lightweight champion, Miguel Vazquez in December 2012 for his belt in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was the first loss of his career.

He was also released by Top Rank in August of last year, one of the many fighters given the pink slip by the Las Vegas based promotional outfit at that time.

The San Diego based boxer has been in talks with various promoters, among them Oscar De la Hoya?s Golden Boy Promotions.

Gesta informed this writer that he has not committed to any promotional company at this time but will do so eventually. He aims to get himself ready first for his return on April and then take it from there. He described his talks with Golden Boy as ?productive.?

Gesta also made changes in his team. He is now being trained by his father, Anecito Sr. and is assisted by his boxer-brother Anecito ?Dondon? Gesta Jr.
