GENERAL SANTOS CITY (Feb 22) ? Richie Mepranum showed too much class in a short four round workout as he stopped his overmatched Thai opponent here Saturday evening.

Phupha Por Nobnom did not answer the bell for the fifth round after taking several mandatory counts in all the rounds he lasted, even taking a knee in at least two occasions to avoid the onrushing Mepranum.

It was the first stoppage win for Mepranum since 2008 who improved to 27-3-1 with 6 KOs.

It was also a successful comeback fight for the Maasim, Sarangani pride who last fought in General Santos City in 2007.

Mepranum did not waste time running after the outclassed Thai who went down from body shots in the opening canto. The Thai was again counted twice in Round 2 and Round 3. He was also knocked down twice in the fourth round.

Phupha was backpedaling all night long before calling it quits at the end of the fourth round.

In the evening?s most entertaining fight, veteran local boy Jetly Purisima of Golingan Stable stood toe to toe with Jerson Luzarito over 10 rounds en route to a competitive unanimous decision win.

The two flyweights slugged it out every corner and in the middle of the ring which drew loud applause from the jampacked Oval Plaza Covered Court. Although there were no knockdowns, both fighters were staggered by their furious exchanges.

Luzarito was cut on his left eyebrow in the 7th but he refused to back down.

The veteran Purisima however dug deep from his 34-fight experience to earn the victory.

Two fights ended in the first round for the evening.
