NEW ORLEANS -- A Flipino was chosen to take part in an NBA Cares event dubbed as the Special Olympics Unified Sports Basketball here at the Jam Sessions' Sprint Arena.
Ronald Macaspac, a 6-foot-3 Ilocano, did not disappoint. The 22 year old drilled 12 points to help his East team beat the West, 63-53, just hours before the 2014 NBA All-Star Game was held at the Smoothie King Arena.
The event was held to help raise funds and shine a light on a very worthy cause, the Special Olympics.
Macaspac's East was reinforced by NBA legends Ron Harper and Dikembe Motumbo and coached by rookies Victor Oladipo of the Orlando Magic and Michael Carter Williams of the Philadelphia Sixers.
The West was aided by NBA legends A.C. Green and Detlef Schrempf and coached by rookies Tim Hardaway Jr of the New York Knicks and Trey Burke of the Utah Jazz.
Both teams were participated in by Special Olympians from the United States, Senegal, China, Egypt, Puerto Rico and Ireland. (Homer D. Sayson)
