CHICAGO -- The Denver Nuggets showed a lot of fight by clawing back from an 18-point deficit to make it a game late in the fourth quarter but the New Orleans Pelicans held on, thanks to Anthony Davis and Tyreke Evans.

Evans finished with 19 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds while Davis had 17 points, seven boards and four blocks and the Pelicans went on to win, 105-89, Friday night at the New Orleans Arena.

"You look at the numbers and I just feel like he has the ability to have monster games. And so I feel like he's playing OK. But I know how good he can be. He has the ability to go 25 and 20," New Orleans head coach Monty Williams told NBA.com while assessing his prized center, Davis.

Ryan Anderson scored 16 and hauled 10 boards while Jrue Holdiay chipped in 17 and the Pelicans improved to 13-14 for the season.

The Nuggets came to within 93-87 with still 2:56 to go but they just lost steam, ending up only 33 made field goals out of 82.

Wilson Chandler led the Nuggets with 22. JJ Hickson had 16 and 10 rebounds and Ty Lawson clocked 14 and 12 assists as Denver fell to 14-14. (Homer D. Sayson)
