ALLANIC FACES TOUGH FIGHT IN U.S. DEBUT

Lanky Robert Allanic, the Philippines No. 2 ranked super flyweight faces a tough fight in his U.S debut against undefeated bantamweight Abner Mares at the New Alhambra in South Philadelphia on March 2.

The 21 year old Allanic who is a product of the ALA Gym and is managed by longtime Cebu resident Cliff Smart is coming off a sixth round technical decision loss in a title clash with Philippine super flyweight champion Eden Sonsona last December 9. However, prior to that Allanic scored an impressive eighth round TKO victory over Japan’s Hiroaki Kusunoki on October 8. Allanic has a record of 15-2 with 7 knockouts.

Mares on the other hand is unbeaten in ten fights, with eight of them ending in knockouts. A member of the Mexican team in 2004 Athens Olympic Games. He is coming off a smashing fourth round KO victory over previously unbeaten Wilmer Rodriguez of the Dominican Republic in Texas.

Respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer said the fight details have yet to be finalized for the card which is being promoted by Golden Boy Promotions with which the ALA Gym and promoter Sammy Gello-ani have a tie-up.
