
MAASIN CITY BOXERS DOMINATE CHRISTMAS OPEN/INVITATIONAL BOXING TOURNAMENT

Host Maasin City boxers snatched most of the wins in the Christmas Open/Invitational Boxing Tournament held last night at the Maasin City Gym. There were twenty three bouts all in all which served as a Christmas highlight to this City who was spared from the casualties of Yolanda though it was under a storm warning signal number four.
The fights involving Maasin successful boxers were Louie Forzado won by split decision over Alvin Gopo of Matalom, Leyte, Jhayve Donaire defeated Roberto Batoto of Bato, Leyte by unanimous decision, Jerome Renegado edged Jowel Adap of Tacloban City by split decision, Romie Evale outclassed Abelardo Yarte of Bato by technical knockout (TKO), Monsour Grullo outpointed Ian Napuli of Ichon, Macrohon by unanimous decision, Leonil Montajes prevailed over Aljer Senoc of Macrohon by UD, Julius Dacapio handily won over Fernando Petalcorin of Macrohon by walkover, Darryl Ramos stopped Nicolas Bantolinao of Macrohon by TKO, and Alemar Javier halted Jhundel Villegas of Tacloban by TKO.
The only Maasin boxer who was defeated was Jeffrey Orello who narrowly lost to Glemar Ledres of Bato by split decision. While Marfil Alba of Ichon, Macrohon won by TKO over Ricardo Impas of Bato, Jolito Catagasan of Bontoc won by walkover against Niko Melgazo of Matalom, and Wildon Ignacio of Tacloban conquered Jervin Salicinas of Matalom by UD.
We invited the Taliban City team headed by national referees Nelson Factoranan and Romnick Villegas. We intend to help them through the honoraria given to the officials. So that they can also buy some foods to be brought back to their typhoon ravaged place.
There were ten other bouts involving boxers which were all from Maasin City. Officiating was done by the Southern Leyte Boxing Association national referees, judges and officials.
