Manila, Philippines - Michael "Hammer Fist" Farenas is reportedly in the list to possibly fight WBO super featherweight champ, Mikey Garcia early next year.
This was revealed by Farenas' manager, Gerry Penalosa during the launching of MAG Pacman Boxing International Promotions at the Solaire Resort Hotel and Casino in Manila, a partnership between Penalosa, boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and young promoter, Anson Tiu-Co of Shape Up Boxing.
Top Rank's Bob Arum, promoter of Garcia spoke to Penalosa in Macao last month during the Pacquiao-Brandon Rios fight and told him to get Farenas ready for a possible fight between the two boxers on February 22, 2014 in Macao, China.
Farenas and Garcia will complement Chinese star Zou Zhiming in what is planned as the first Macao installment of Top Rank for next year.
"Farenas is worthy to be part of that card and if ever that fight happens I hope he can give honor to our country," Penalosa stated.
Penalosa and Farenas admitted that Garcia is a very tough opponent but they will be ready when the contract about the fight is finalized.
Farenas will be fighting this Saturday as the main event of MAG Boxing's inaugural presentation. He will be facing Mexican Jesus Rios (20-4, 4 KO) at Solaire Resort Hotel and Casino, one of the country's brand new entertainment and leisure venue.
"Kung me pagkakataon, gagawin natin ang knockout." (If there is a chance, we will look for the knockout.) Farenas said of his fight this Saturday.
Farenas has been preparing at the gym two days after his last victory against a Thai opponent in October. His name has gained recognition after his gallant stand against unbeaten world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa last year.
A potential fight between Gamboa and Garcia is also being pursued by Top Rank but there seems to be reluctance in the camp of the Cuban star to fight at the junior lightweight - lightweight class.
Farenas in the meantime is glad to step in to fight Garcia anytime.
