WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel has finally signed the contract for his February 24 mandatory title defense against Z ?The Dream? Gorres in Cebu City.

After weeks of excuses, hedging and hawing over the site as well as the date which had been originally set for March 4 but was advanced to February 24 because of the postponement of the Philippine-Mexico World Cup where the fight was one of the highlights, the Mexican champion finally inked the deal.

Respected Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today ?we already got this morning Montiel?s contract. The fight is on!?

Earlier, the WBO had given Montiel 48 hours to explain why he hadn?t signed the contract to fight Gorres after well-known promoter Sammy Gello-ani had won the purse bid following failure to come to terms through free negotiations.

The flashy Gorres who has wound down his training at Freddie Roach?s Wild Card Gym along with emerging ring sensation Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista and trainer Edito ? Ala ? Villamor is returning over the weekend and will finish his preparations at the famed ALA Gym in Cebu.
