
NBA -- Lakers handle Pelicans, 116-95 (Photos)

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Lakers broke a close game wide open with a 33-point second quarter to score an easy 116-95 win over the visiting New Orleans Pelicans Tuesday night at the Staples Center here in downtown Los Angeles.
Jordan Hill paced the Lakers with 21 points and 11 rebounds while All-Star center Pau Gasol added 14 and eight boards for L.A. which shot 55.7 percent from the field (44 of 79) and 55 percent (11 of 20) from 3-point territory. Nick Young added 17 markers while Xavier Henry and Jodie Meeks each had 15 for the Lakers.
Eric Gordon topscored for the Pelicans with 17 and Anthony Davis finished with 15 and five rebounds. Tyreke Evans also chipped in 11 points for the Pelicans, who made just 34 of 84 shots for a low 40.5 percent.
The Lakers improved to 4-5 while the Pelicans dropped to 3-5.
