DONAIRE AND DARCHINYAN'S STORY OF REVENGE

The return bout of The Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire and Raging Bull Vic Darchinyan is a story of revenge. Donaire, 31-2 with 20 KO wins, and Darchinyan, 39-5-1 with 28 KO wins, will face each other again on November 9 at Corpus Christi, Texas.

"I will stop him. I want to show the world it's not about him. It's about me. I have the skill. I have the power. I'm prepared mentally against him. I know everything he is going to do and when he comes I'm going to demolish him. I'm very motivated for this fight. I lost to him," Darchinyan was quoted by ringtv.

In 2007, the Australia-based Armenian Darchinyan suffered his first defeat from Donaire in the IBF and IBO flyweight championship and lost his titles to the US-based Filipino by a whopping TKO.

Darchinyan was hit with a crushing left hook from Donaire which sent him to the canvas in an exchange of punches in the fifth round. Darchinyan was able to get up though wobbly and immediately fell on the ropes prompting the referee to stop the fight.

The surprise KO was eventually awarded Knockout of the Year and the brutal match became the Upset of the Year by Ring Magazine.

But it was considered the first revenge of the boxing story of the two rivals. On October 7, 2006, in his fifth title defense, Darchinyan faced Glenn Donaire, Nonito's elder brother. Glenn gave up the fight after Vic broke his jaw in the 6th round allegedly caused by an elbow attack from Darchinyan.

However the replays did not show motions of an elbow strike. Darchinyan was declared winner by technical decision, but have always challenged the verdict as a legitimate knockout. The scores were 60-53 on all three cards for Darchinyan.

After that loss, Glenn retired for 3? years. But he had since moved on from the loss and in his return he has won two successive fights. He stopped former strawweight titleholder Alex ?Nene? Sanchez and won a 12-round decision against former junior flyweight title challenger Omar Salado.

Since then the loss of his older brother was avenged by Nonito on July 7, 2007, that's a 7-7-7. It was sweet vengeance as it rocked the boxing world. Darchinyan at that time was undefeated for 28 fights. On June 2009, the three-division world champion was rated the number 8 pound for pound boxer in the world by The Ring.

But this time, it was Darchinyan's turn to seek revenge. The eight time champion in four weight divisions has won 11 and lost 4 fights since losing to Nonito Donaire, who will turn 31 years old a week after facing the 37-year-old Armenian.

"The motivation is definitely back," Donaire said referring to his loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux. "I just realised I want to box. After the loss I realised I want to be in this game as long as I can," he told ringtv.

The Donaire-Darchinyan rematch is scheduled for 10 rounds and is a non-title fight. It will be their first fight after both boxers moved up to the featherweight division.
