Marvin "The Good Boy" Mabait made good on his promise and knocked out his opponent, Johnny Garcia in only the first round of their 12 round bantamweight bout in Mexico City.
The 25 year old fighter from Zamboanga City came out aggressive from his corner in the opening bell and floored Garcia with a flurry of left and right hands. Garcia folded after receiving the hits and was unable to get up after. The referee counted him out as he laid grimacing in pain in the canvas.
Mabait celebrated with his trainer, Nonito Donaire Sr. in the ring as the referee and ring announcer hailed him as the winner of the main event bout at the Jose Cuervo Salon in Mexico City.
Their fight was carried live by Telemundo all over Mexico and the United States. Mabait improved his record to 19 wins and 12 knockouts against 1 defeat and 2 draws. He also won the WBO Intercontinetal title with the victory and positioned himself for a possible title shot this year.
