New York ? The world was stunned when Manny Pacquiao dropped face first into the canvas of the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas from a single punch by Juan Manuel Marquez. And along with that image of a laid out Manny Pacquiao, the viewers saw his hysterical wife, Jinkee, who was being comforted by their family, friends and promoter Bob Arum.

People felt sorry for Jinkee on that evening in December, they felt the pain and fear of a wife who just witnessed her husband suffer a brutal beating right in front of her eyes and in close proximity to the incident. Jinkee admitted that she can?t help but break down and cry after seeing what happened to her husband.

(I cannot believe what happened at that instance. It was my first time to see him like that. He took a long time to get up. Of all the fights of him that I have been, even the ones he lost, he would rise up immediately and that is why that was hard for me.)

Jinkee was so used to seeing her husband dominate the fight game at ringside and a defeat - this defeat especially was a shock to her. She worried about her fallen husband who was being surrounded by his team and by medical personnel inside the ring. She tried to rush to the ring to see him but people around her restrained her from doing so. She heaved a sigh of relief when she saw her husband regained consciousness after the knockout.

(I am used to Manny knocking out his opponents. It was my first time that I witnessed him like that and I was worried. I worried about his condition. Sometimes, I just don?t think about the victory or whatever, it?s important that he is okay. That in victory or in defeat, the priority is his health.)

While in the ambulance that rushed her husband to the Emergency Department of the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada after the fight, Jinkee was at Manny?s side all the time. She offered him support and she tried to calm her husband but Pacquiao needed no consolation according to her.

E ganito talaga ang laro, win or lose, kailangang tanggapin mo.?

(He accepted his defeat right away. He told me, maybe we shouldn?t box if we don?t want to lose. These is the nature of the game, win or lose, we need to accept the results.)

Jinkee attributed Manny?s attitude after his violent loss to Marquez to her husband?s strong faith in the Almighty and she believed that it played the biggest factor for them to overcome such traumatic event.

(Yes, his faith helped a lot. We should not expect to be winners all the time. We also need to accept our loss. That is when you will realize how strong you?ve become- when you can accept your loss.)

Manny?s approach to his loss, their faith and their experiences together as husband and wife all contributed to her acceptance of that daunting experience. It also brought them closer as a couple and as a family. Manny took a hiatus after that defeat, foregoing a planned April fight this year and the Pacquiao family instead went on a vacation and retreat in The Holy Land. She admitted that in a way, she was thankful that Manny did not fight immediately which gave him the rest that he needed. They also took advantage of that break by spending time with their children.

(It was more important that he take a rest and we were also able to take a vacation with the children so at least we were able to spend time together.)

Jinkee is thankful for all the support that her family received during that time when Manny was at his lowest in his storied career as a boxer. She was overwhelmed by the words of encouragement and the kind gestures that they received from their countrymen, especially when they went home from the U.S. after the fight.

?Nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila at naramdaman din nila yung naramdaman ko as a wife, as a mother. Siyempre pag kapwa Pilipino, nagtutulungan talaga at nagkaka-isa at doon nagpapasalamat ako.?

(I thank all of them for sympathizing with me and that they felt what I am going through at that time, as a wife, as a mother. I really felt how they love Manny. I thank them for their sympathy and their continued support. And of course, Filipinos really do help each other out and for that I am grateful.)

Jinkee Pacquiao may not be a fighter in the ring like her husband but she seemed to have inherited her husband?s courage and sportsmanship and more importantly- they share the same belief that has strengthened them as husband and wife.

?All these things, these are just temporary.

?All of these things, these are just temporary. What is important is that God is always first and that He remains to be the priority in our lives.?
