New York -- Brandon Rios is usually your straightforward and your in-your-face type of fighter both in and out of the boxing ring. But that bluntness has taken a backseat during the six city international promo tour that brought him and his team across Asia and America.
The 27 year old former lightweight champ has nothing ill to say against his next opponent, boxing star Manny Pacquiao. In fact promotional pictures of them two showed them smiling and friendly with each other as they tour various tourist destinations in China and Singapore.
?We met but not really got like met-met-talk. I am the type of guy who does not like to get close to my opponents. I just like to lean back. The only person that I really got close to and that I really talked to was (Mike) Alvarado, because I know Alvarado back in the day,? said Rios.
Rios admitted that ?it was awkward? for him to be in the press tour and see and rub shoulders with Pacquiao almost every day in the last two weeks that they traveled together. Pacquiao?s mild demeanor and lack of trash talking might have tone him down but that is not the case with Pacquiao?s adviser, Michael Koncz.
?Manny Pacquiao, he is a respectful man. He doesn?t say anything bad. Maybe his adviser, Michael, Michael C_ _t (expletive) whatever. I call him C_ _t (expletive). He was the one that was running his mouth. He was the one that was running his mouth a little bit. But you know what, he stopped for a little bit but if he opens his mouth again, I am going to say something back,? Rios asserted.
Koncz, in a recent interview with ringtv.com, belittled Rios? claims of dominating and possibly knocking Pacquiao down when the two meet in Macau, China on November 24th (23rd in the West).
"It's America. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, whether there is any substance to it or not. I hope that he tries to do what he's saying that he's going to do, and that way, the fans will get their money's worth,? Koncz stated in that interview.
Rios listened intensely when Koncz spoke at the dais during Tuesday?s press conference in New York City (top photo). He waited for Koncz to utter something to his disliking - but that never came.
