Matthysse.
The biggest boxing event of the year just got bigger with the addition of a fight that fans of the sport have high on their wish list.
Golden Boy Promotions through its CEO, Richard Schaeffer, announced the addition of the junior welterweight showdown between WBC interim champ, Lucas Matthysse and WBA Super World and WBC regular title holder, Danny Garcia in their September 14th Pay per View card dubbed as ?The One.?
?We know that 'The One' on September 14th is big, is very big. And yet, the big one got even bigger. Yes, it?s done, Yes, Danny 'Swift' Garcia versus Lucas 'The Machine' Matthysse will happen. And yes, it will happen on September 14th as part of The One. The One just got another one,? said Schaeffer.
This announcement adds another ?wow? factor on that mega night of boxing which is headlined by the super welterweight duel between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his young and undefeated challenger, Saul Alvarez which is slated to be held at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Matthysse, 30, has placed himself as a name to reckon with in the sport with impressive knockout performances of late. He dropped Lamont Peterson three times en route to a rousing 3rd round knockout last May in Atlantic City in his last outing.
Garcia, 25, has also been on a string of spectacular performances himself, beating big names like that of Amir Khan, Erik Morales and Zab Judah while maintaining an undefeated record of 26 (16 KOs) wins.
Schaeffer acknowledged both fighters in their willingness to make ?the next most anticipated fight in the sport of boxing.?
?Thank you to both fighters for agreeing to this fight. These are true modern day gladiators.?
The addition of the Matthysse versus Garcia duel will nicely complement the main event that is Mayweather ? Alvarez. Golden Boy Promotions and Showtime Network are hoping that it will entice the public to purchase the Pay per View card which is pegged at $65 for standard definition and $75 for high definition purchases.
The event that was a complete sellout in less than a day after venue tickets were made available to the public has surpassed the highest grossing boxing card in history- that of Mayweather Jr. and Golden Boy?s founder, Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.
