The Philippines No. 9 flyweight Romnick Magos got up from a third round knockdown to come back and score a 5th round TKO over Japan?s No. 7 ranked Kohei Kubo but countryman Jeker Buhawe who is the Philippines No. 14 ranked bantamweight lost by a shutout over ten rounds to Japanese southpaw Ryosuke Iwasa in Tokyo.
Magos belongs to the stable of Rex ?Wakee? Salud whose trainer Juanito Ablaca informed philboxing.com that although he was dropped in the third round Magos fought back ferociously until the referee called a halt at 2:35 of the 5th round Kubo was not punching back.
Ablacana said Magos impressed Japanese fight fans with his non-stop punching style which was compared to former WBA champion Bernabe Villacampo who won the world title from Japan?s Hiroyuki Ebihara with a 15 round unanimous decision in October 19, 1969.
The win improved Magos record to 9-2 with 5 knockouts while Kubo dropped to 15-4-1 with 10 knockouts.
The 23 year old Buhawe lost a one-sided bout to Japan?s No. 8 ranked Kyosuke Iwasa who improved his record to 15-1 with 9 knockouts while Buhawe dropped to 14-9-1 with 9 knockouts.
