Sulaiman.
World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman is embarrassed and disgusted at the fiasco in Dubai during the WBC minimum weight title fight which Chinese champion Xiong Zhao Zhong won by a majority decision over Silver champion and mandatory challenger Denver Cuello of the Philippines at the World Trade Center in Dubai.

In an email to Games and Amusements Board boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz, a copy of which Sulaiman forwarded to us, he said ?I remember (Aljoe) Jaro asking for a 30% advance to assure part of the purse. I don't think that they paid it, and it was not in the WBC rules.?

Sulaiman said ?How wrong I was to allow these things to happen. I was fooled by believing that an important Chinese TV was involved.?

The WBC president conceded ?I just don't to know what to do, as the promoter had never had any business with the WBC before. I have been intensely involved to support the fight as I thought that it was good for China's involvement in pro boxing.?

He promised ?I will keep insisting, and we are ready now to declare suspensions and all what is necessary. We will continue enforcing the payment. The WBC never had one situation like this before in its 50 years of existence. and we will not accept this matter to die.?

In his email to Sulaiman, Dr. Cruz also mentioned that he had learned from Zhong?s manager Liu Gang that ?they themselves likewise were not paid.?

The Manila Standard learned that even the ring officials were not paid by KO Promotions while the WBC supervisor Patrick Cusik was nowhere to be found after the fight.

Aljoe Jaro informed us that he had received $2,500 on Tuesday as the first installment of Cuello?s $24,000 purse which promoter Zack Taumafi promised to settle by the end of July.

The managing director of KO Promotions submitted an agreement on a payment schedule where he would ?use reasonable skill and care in performing his obligations under this agreement? which would include $2,500 installments on July 3, 5 and 7, a $12,500 installment on July 15 and a final payment of $13,225 ON July 29.

It also turns out that the purse of Cuello which was originally reported to be $40,000 was apparently reduced to $24,000 which Taumafai claimed was 40 percent of the total amount of the $60,000 purse of champion Zhong.

KO Promotions also agreed to reimburse the $8,725 advanced by Aljoe Jaro for the purchase of 5 return airline tickets which the promoter failed to deliver as per fight contract.
Leonil Legarda who fought on the undercard was promised a purse of $3,000.
