Berchelt.
In another seeming mismatch Filipino super featherweight Weng Haya was knocked out in the second round by undefeated 21 year old Mexican prospect Miguel Berchelt in Merida, Mexico, Sundao morning, Manila Time.
Haya who had shocked world champion Orlando Salido in a ten-round non-title fight last December 17 when he dropped Salido in rounds 3 and 4 but was himself stopped in round 8, was no match for Berchelt who improved to 19-0 with 16 knockouts with his most impressive showing to date. Haya fell to 17-6 with 9 knockouts.
Rafael Soto of boxing scene reported that Berchelt who was coming off a 1st round stoppage of over-matched Carlos Claudio on the undercard of the rematch between Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios and Mike Alvarado on a Top Rank card in Las Vegas last March, began punishing Haya in the first round and put him down. He followed up in the second round and finished him (Haya) off.
It was Berchelt?s fifth straight win, two by KO and 3 by TKO. He had won the WBC Youth Intercontinental title with a smashing 2nd round knockout of previously undefeated Oliver Flores who had a record of 23-0 with 16 knockouts going into the fight with Berchelt.
Haya, on the other hand, was coming off a 1st round knockout of patsy Cris Alag, the 33 year old veteran with a miserable record of only 7 wins against 21 defeats with 3 knockouts.
Haya had also lost by a 4th round TKO to world title challenger Jose Ocampo in a clash for the WBO Asia Pacific Interim title on March 4, 2012 after being dropped twice in round three and once in round four.
