Previously undefeated Filipino bantamweight Jundy Maraon was knocked out in the 7th round of a WBA title eliminator on ESPN?s Friday Night Fights at the Richard J. Codey Arena in South Orange, New Jersey.

Former WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire told the Manila Standard while watching the fight on TV that Maraon got nailed with a huge left hand to the head in the 7th round and went down and didn?t beat the count. The Filipino southpaw stayed down for several minutes. The time was :39 seconds of the seventh round.

It was a much awaited battle of undefeated bantamweight contenders with two-time Olympian Juan Carlos Payano of the Dominican Republic improving his record to 14-0 with 8 knockouts with the win.

Payano was badly cut above the right eye after an accidental clash of heads in the opening round of the title eliminator and was also dropped by Maraon who connected with a solid shot in the third round.

But Payano got off the canvas to inflict the first defeat on Maraon, a prot?g? of former North Cotabato governor Manny Pinol in spectacular fashion.

Maraon dropped to 15-1-1 with 12 knockouts.
