Former WBA flyweight champion Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez who lost his title to then WBO champion Brian Viloria by a 10th round TKO in an action-packed unification bout last November 17 in Los Angeles, has returned with a vengeance by scoring a lopsided twelve round decision against former IBF light flyweight champion Carlos ?Olimpico? Tamara in a WBO flyweight eliminator.
Tamara himself had won the IBF title with a stunning 12th round TKO over Viloria on January 23,2010 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Metro Manila when referee Bruce McTavish called a halt with just 75 second remaining in the bout and Viloria well ahead on points. But the stoppage was justified since Viloria was absorbing a flurry of punches against the ropes and looked totally exhausted.
Boxingscene.com reported that Marquez controlled the fight against Tamara and dropped him in the fifth round before going on to win a decision against the game Tamara.
All three judges had Marquez the winner, two by shutout scores of 120-107, 120-108 and the third by a 119-109 margin.
The hard-hitting Marquez improved to 36-3 with 26 knockouts while Tamara dropped to 23-8-1 with 17 knockouts.
