Well known promoter Sammy Gello-ani has informed the Manila Standard that 21 year old Mark Anthony Geraldo will not be ready to face WBC super flyweight interim Silver champion David ?Tornado? Sanchez in Sonora, Mexico on June 1 as announced by the promoters in Mexico.
Gello-ani said he had spoken to Geraldo?s manager Leonil Lazarito and they both agreed that the short notice given them did not enable Geraldo to get back into the gym and train properly for a tough fight on the undercard of the battle between former WBA flyweight champion Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez and former IBF light flyweight champion Carlos ?El Olimpico? Tamara in a WBO title eliminator.
Gello-ani told us it's not true that they had agreed to a June 1 bout because the young fighter is not ready. He said ?we are not scared of Sanchez,? adding that they will be ready to fight the Mexican sometime later, perhaps in mid July.
Gello-ani said this will give Geraldo an opportunity to spar with Froilan ?The Sniper? Saludar and John Mark Apolinario and get in shape for Sanchez.
Geraldo will seek to avenge the controversial loss of another 21 year old Filipino, Marlon Tapales, who dropped a majority decision to Sanchez last February 23 in Mexico.
Geraldo who carries the monicker ?El Heneral? is coming off back ?to-back stoppage wins. He won by an 8th round TKO over Jessie Tuyor on August 10, 2012 and in his last fight scored an impressive 2nd round knockout of Japan?s Hirofumi Mukai in Osaka on April 7, 2013..
Geraldo has a record of 28-4-3 with 12 knockouts while Sanchez has a record of 20-2-2 with 15 knockouts.
