Sylvester Lopez.
Former WBC super flyweight champion and defeated title challenger Sylvester Lopez has returned from his latest fight in Mexico with a tale of woe.

The reigning WBC Asia Council Continental super bantamweight champion?s manager, Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde Jr informed the Manila Standard that Lopez who lost a ten round unanimous decision to Mexico?s undefeated Adrian ?Chinito? Young (18-0-1, 15 ko'S) claimed that Young ?did not make the weight limit as stipulated in the fight contract and he did not reduce weight.?

He also complained that the referee gave Lopez a mandatory count in the first round when he threw a punch and was off-balance and fell on the slippery canvas.

Lopez said the promoter, believed to be Hector Garcia who doesn?t have a good reputation, didn?t pay him his purse of $6,000 and according to Elorde ?they (including trainer Archel Villamor) went home without money.?

They left Mexico at 7:00 a.m. and were not served breakfast and during the five hour flight to Los Angeles they only served peanuts and drinks.

Elorde said that ?since there was no connecting flight on the same day they (Lopez and Villamor) had to wait 48 hours for a connecting flight to Manila.?

He said ?they only had food to eat when they were already on Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Narita airport (in Japan).?

Elorde described it as ?a very bad experience for Lopez and Archel? even as he added ?I hope this thing doesn?t happen again to other Filipino boxers who will travel and fight in Mexico.?

According to Elorde the fight was arranged by Paolo Diaz, an executive of Solar Sports and the bad treatment was compounded by the fact that Garcia who was in the ring in a suit and was pointed to as the promoter denied that he was the promoter when Lopez asked for his money.
