Argentina?s Lucas Matthysse who blasted IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson in three rounds at the Boardwalk in Atlantic City last Saturday is honored that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schafer compared him to eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao after his devastating knockout of Peterson whom he dropped once in round two and twice in round three with vicious punches.
However, the 30 year old Matthysse who has 32 knockouts in 34 wins with just two losses, told a post fight news conference "I feel very happy that people are comparing me to Manny Pacquiao, but what I really want to do is fight him."
In heralding Matthysse as ?the new Pacquiao,? Schaefer was obviously referring to Pacquiao?s amazing string of knockouts showing tremendous punching power when he disposed of Erik ?El Terrible? Morales in their second and third fights, dropped Juan Manuel Marquez three times in the opening round of their first fight, demolished Oscar De La Hoya, annihilated Ricky Hatton, battered Miguel Cotto and ripped Antonio Margarito.
For the present, Matthysse who is the WBC Interim champion, is eyeing WBC champion Danny Garcia in a September 7 fight date proposed by Schaefer.
As for a Pacquiao fight, the Filipino?s adviser Michael Koncz told the Manila Standard that Manny?s sights are focused on his scheduled November 24 showdown with Brandon ?Bam Bam? Rios at the Venetian Resort Hotel in Macau.
Koncz said ?it?s a very important fight and we have a job to do,? adding that right now Pacquiao is not looking ahead other than at the Rios fight.
He said Pacquiao who was unopposed and won re-election to congress from the lone district of Sarangani provonce will take his oath on June 7 but that ?right now he is spending some quality time with his children.?
Pacquiao and wife Jinkee who easily won in the race for vice governor of Sarangani, have two sons and two daughters.
