Michael Farenas scored a first round TKO victory over his Mexican opponent, Gerardo Zayas.
The heavy handed Gubat, Sorsogon fighter knocked Zayas down three times in the opening stanza of their scheduled 8 rounder en route to the impressive win at the Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.
The third and final knockdown came at the 2:59 mark of the first and ended the night for the Mexican journeyman in a joint Top Rank and Foreman Promotions in the Lone Star State.
The victory is key for Farenas who according to his manager, Gerry Penalosa, is in line for a title shot in his next fight which can occur as early as July as part of Top Rank's second offering in Macao, China.
"Salamat sa inyong lahat sa suporta sa pagdarasal (I thank you all for all your support and prayers)," was Michael Farenas' message to his fans and supporters through a text message that he sent to this writer right after his victory.
