Former WBO, Ring Magazine and WBC Diamond Belt super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire said he believes he can be ready to return to the ring in October and fight newly crowned WBC champion Victor Terrazas who won the title relinquished by Abner Mares with a split decision over former super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares last April 20.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum proposed the Terrazas fight while Donaire's trainer Robert Garcia said he'd prefer that Donaire remains to fight at 122 for the time being in the face of an earlier proposal by Arum that he move up to featherweight and face former WBO world champion Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez in Puerto Rico.
Donaire told the Manila Standard that at 122 it would be a hassle and he would have to ?really have weight management to stay at 122 if I need to, but I want to fight at 126 because I feel so much better at 126 and won?t have to lose so much weight which is not too good. But whatever they want me to do I want to go after whoever they want me to fight.?
Donaire said he is undergoing rehabilitation right now and his shoulder "is doing a lot better. I?m doing a lot of active rehabilitation now, a little bit more movements and stretching and its actually getting a lot better.?
He underwent surgery last weekend to repair a bone spur in his shoulder and two tears in his ligaments.
The four division world champion said he and wife Rachel who is expecting their first child around July 21 are leaving for Hawaii tomorrow for a pre-birth baby affair. He said he will relax and have a good time so that ?when I come back. I?m going to come back stronger. I feel good.?
Donaire expressed joy over the TV ratings of his fight against Guillermo Rigondeaux at the iconic Radio City Music Hall last April 13 which was telecast by ABS-CBN and registered a remarkable 33.3 percent rating nationwide with a 40. 6 rating in the Visayas and a flat 40.0 percent in Mindanao.
He thanked Filipino fans for watching his fight and a lot of other people for supporting him, vowing ?to give them the best show next time.?
Donaire said the next fight is planned for October and he believes he can be ready by then ?from the way my hand, my arm is healing. After my baby is born I?ll be there for my baby but at the same time get ready for October.?
