Former WBC world super flyweight champion Masanmori Tokuyama, the Japan-born North Korean who twice beat two-division world champion Gerry Penalosa has been arrested in Kobe, Japan for beating up two men.
Police said Tokuyama whose real name is Hong Chang Su admitted to punching the two men in the face several times during a ten-minute altercation in Sanda, Hyogo Prefecture following a traffic incident near a gasoline station.
The Japan Times in its story on the arrest and subsequent release of Tokuyama said the 38 year old former world champion ?punched a 24-year-old man who turned his vehicle in front of the former champion after exiting the gas station and also punched a 53-year-old manager of the station, who had been guiding the man?s vehicle onto the street.?
Tokuyama won the WBC title from South Korea?s In Joo Cho by a unanimous twelve round decision in his hometown of Osaka on August 27, 2000 and retained the title in a rematch in Seoul on May 20, 2001.
Tokuyama scored a close unanimous decision over Penalosa on September 24, 2001 and in a rematch won a controversial split decision on December 20, 2012 with Penalosa?s trainer Freddie Roach insisting that the rematch decision was a robbery.
