GUILLERMO RIGONDEAUX GETS HIS WBO SUPERBANTAMWEIGHT BELT

Newly crowned WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux has received his championship belt from from World Boxing Organization (WBO) president Francisco ?Paco? Valcarcel.

Guillermo ?El Chacal? Rigondeaux, the WBA champion received the 122 pound belt he won when he defeated WBO, Ring Magazine and WBC Diamond Belt super bantamweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire at the iconic Radio City Music Hall in New York last April 13.

Rigondeaux stunned the heavily favored Donaire with his amazing hand-speed, footwork and pinpoint punches to win a unanimous twelve round decision before a huge New York crowd.

In an event held at the Cuban Restaurant Versalles in Miami, Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KOs), along with his co-promoters Boris Arencibia and Luis Fonseca of Caribe Promotions, received his crown. Also in the attendance were his trainer Pedro Luis Diaz Benitez, former world champion Joel Casamayor, MLB pitcher Livan Hernandez and Felix ?Tutico? Zabala, All Star Boxing president.

The undefeated Rigondeaux improved to 12-0 with 8 knockouts in an impressive win over Donaire (32-2 with 20 knockouts) despite being dropped in the tenth round.

Donaire since the fight underwent surgery on his right shoulder for a bone spur and two torn ligaments and is undergoing rehabilitation and doing well.

Donaire and wife Rachel are expecting their first child around July 21 and he has indicated he plans to return to the ring later this year.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said he is hoping to arrange a title fight against newly crowned WBC champion Victor "Vikingo" Terrazas who won the title relinquished by Abner Mares who moved up in weight beating former super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares by a split decision.

Another possibility mentioned by Arum was a fight against former featherweight champion Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez in Puerto Rico.
