GenSan, Davao Norte in finals of Pacman slugfest

GENERAL Santos City ? Davao del Norte and host General Santos City are fighting for the over-all crown in the first Manny ?PacMan? Pacquiao Cup National Amateur Boxing Championships.

As of press time (Dec. 20), both teams have seven boxers fighting in the finals at the Oval Plaza covered court here.
GenSan's Aroel Romasasa (32 kg.), Larry Romares (34 kg.), Roldan Bongcales (38 kg.), Julito Purisima (40 kg.), Saddam Barambagan (42 kg.), Noriel Nacionales (44 kg.) and Robert Gargaran (48 kg.) are vying for the gold medals in this four-day event supported also by the city government.

Seeking the gold medals for Davao del Norte Rep. Tonyboy Floirendo's squad are Mark Anthony Barriga (34 kg.), Rodel Rino (36 kg.), Jerwin Ancajas (40 kg.), Anthony Saron (42 kg.), Victorio Saludar III (44 kg.), Jonathan Tawan (46 kg.) and Jaime Quitoriano (51 kg.).

The diminutive Romasasa beat North Cotabato's Alvin Agbulos in the semifinals to face Mandaluyong's Jerome Sarong, who ousted Metro Dadiangas' Jesrel Colongan.

Gargaran takes on North Cotabato's Romel Asenjo, while Rino and
Bongcales collide with South Cotabato's Ronie Diaros Jr. and Misamis Oriental's Elenger Abales, respectively.Tawan and Quitoriano will fight against Davao City's Edwin Moralde and
veteran Ali Brasharey Cali, respectively.

Rey Golingan, president of the organizing Amateur Boxing Association of the Phils. (Abap) GenSan Chapter said that Pacquiao, who turned 28th last Dec. 17, however, is not sure to attend the awarding rites.

?Pacquiao was fetched by the ABS-CBN to Manila. He is also having a concert on Dec. 23 kasi,? Golingan said.
