Pedro Guevara staged a superb rally in the last few rounds to win the WBC light flyweight Silver championship by scoring a twelve round split decision victory over former world champion Raul ?Rayito? Garcia.
Guevara who was dropped in the opening round and lost a twelve round split decision to the Philippines world champion Johnreil Casimero last August in Sinaloa, got the better of Garcia who had won the title some years ago from another Filipino, Florante Condes in ?Rayito?s? hometown of La Paz.
Garcia was dropped in the fourth round but quickly turned the fight around.
The WBC website reported that Guevara ?roared on by the people of Sinaloa was in top gear from the opening bell? but that the experienced Garcia ?dug deep, drawing on all his guile, trying to turn the fight around. And by the eighth round, thanks to the open scoring rule we knew Garcia was actually up on the scorecards.?
Guevara wasn?t to be denied as he rallied magnificently to ?pull the fight out of the fire? according to the WBC.
In a close fight two judges gave Guevara the nod by scores of 114-113 and 115-113 while the third judge had Garcia the winner 114-113.
