Alfred ?Captain A? Sabaupan failed to score a win Saturday night in the country that has dealt him the first loss of his career.

The 24 year old boxer out of Agoncillo, Batangas, lost via Unanimous Decision against Ricardo Dominguez in a 10 round lightweight match at the Tecate Forum Arena in Sinaloa, Mexico with scores of 97-92, 98-90 and 97-91.

In a report sent to Philboxing.com by Mexican promoter Zanfer Promotions, Dominguez escaped with a close and controversial win over the brave Filipino fighter who wowed the crowd with his brave fighting style.

Sabaupan was knocked down in the opening round after receiving a right hand from Dominguez but the Filipino fighter bounced back in the succeeding two rounds to make the fight interesting. Dominguez then garnered rounds utilizing jabs and ring movement against his counterpart.

Sabaupan?s manager, Elmer Anuran of Saved by the Bell Promotions, told Philboxing.com that the results chould have been closer than the scores that the three judges submitted.

?It could have been closer siguro yung decision. Kasi wide yung Unanimous Decision, very wide.?

(The decision could have been closer, it was very wide.) stated Anuran who watched a live feed of the fight in Manila.

?Kaya nakarinig kami ng boos after the fight. I talked to Al at nagkaroon nga daw ng boos after the fight.?

(We heard some boos after the fight. I talked to Al and he said the crowd booed after the fight.)said Anuran.

The youthful boxing manager opined that Dominguez did not elect to exchange against his boxer, satisfied to just throw and jabbed at Sabaupan enabling the Mexican to ?pile up some points.?

?Pero kung quality punches, kay Al. Marami siyang quality punches. Wala lang combinations kasi pag tumama siya, kumakapit o either aalis yung Dominguez.?

(But Al scored with quality punches. He threw a lot of quality punches. He was just unable to throw combinations because Dominguez clings or moves away after he gets hit by Al.)

?Maganda ang laban. Me mga positive comments and impressions pa rin kami because of Al being fearless. Masarap panoorin.?
(The fight was good. We received positive comments and impressions because of Al being fearless. It was a great fight to watch.? added Anuran.

Anuran admitted that Sabaupan will benefit from a better training, citing the lack of local sparring partners for his fighter as one of the inadequacies of training at home.

?We are planning to put him in Mexico for training and also for him to get fights in the States or in the West.? he told Philboxing.com.

When asked if they have a trainer in mind, Anuran mentioned that his first choice was Hall of Fame Trainer, Ignacio ?Nacho? Beristain.

?We will be talking to Zanfer tomorrow, gusto ko sana ke Nacho, I don?t know kung uubra, pero yun yung nakikita namin.?

(We will be talking to Zanfer tomorrow, I want Nacho, but I don?t know if that?s possible but that is what we are looking at.)

What a sight it will be seeing the longtime trainer of Juan Manuel Marquez training and at the corner of Sabaupan, a dead-ringer for their rival Manny Pacquiao.
