
Donaire issues statement regarding his absence at PSA ceremony

Nonito Donaire Jr. issued an statement regarding his failure to attend the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) awards night ceremony where he was honored as the organization's "Athlete of the Year" held last Saturday at the Manila Hotel.
In an email sent to this writer, Nonito Donaire writes...
"Regardless of the misunderstanding, I will still proudly represent the Philippines.
I appreciate the endless support the PSA writers have given me, from awarding me my first athlete of the year back in 2008 up until the present time. I hope to continue to inspire kids and other aspiring athletes to focus on their goals and know that their dreams are achievable. Again, I apologize for those who were hurt and hope that the flag being raised once again on April 14th erases misconception about the sacrifices I needed to make.
