Filipino Jose Maxian has won the WBC World Youth Lightweight Championship with a stunning 7th round knockout of Japanese champion Tsukasa Saito at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Friday night.
The 21 year old Maxian who belongs to the stable of Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde Jr, improved his record to 9-2 with 7 knockouts.
Elorde told the Manila Standard that Maxian who is from Capiz is ?really strong and courageous.? The new world youth champion was scheduled to return home on Sunday.
Maxian had previously won the World Professional Boxing Federation Asia Pacific super lightweight title with a 2nd round knockout of Douglas Walo.
The 22 year old Saito who won the WBC Youth title with a 2nd round TKO of Thailand?s Rajakru Sor Runwatana last August 21 used his hand-speed and footwork to pile up the points in the early rounds but Maxian launched a furious assault in the fateful seventh round and dropped Saito who crashed to the canvas and was counted out at 2:48 of the round.
